2 Colour Brioche

2-colour brioche stitch

Brioche stitch is an absolutely fantastic way to create airy, squishy fabric reminiscent of fisherman's rib. Many people are intimidated by the stitch, particularly when faced with 2-colour Brioche knitting, but in reality, once you get to grips with the yarn overs and stick to the basic principles, nothing could be simpler and the result is extremely satisfying...

For the following tutorial LC (Light Colour) = Pink (work with this yarn) and DC (Dark Colour) = Purple (work with this yarn). As such DS (Dark Side) means that of the predominantly purple yarn and LS (Light Side) means that of the predominantly pink yarn. :)

P = Purl; K = Knit; Sl = Slip the next stitch. Yo = Yarn over. St(s) = Stitch(es); Brk = Bark. To knit the next stitch & it's corresponding yarnover together. Brp = Burp. To purl the next stitch & its corresponding yarnover together. Wyib = With the yarn in the back.

1. With your larger needle, C/O an odd number of sts, alternating the colours & beginning and ending with the Light Colour (in this case, Pink). The needle must either be double-pointed or a circular needle, as the stitches need to be able to be pushed along from one side of the needle to the next.

2 & 3. Change to the smaller of the two needles and begin the first setup row as follows:

Setup Row 1 DS/LC (Pink): P1*sl1yo, p1* repeat across. Don't turn your work, but now slide the stitches across to the other end of the needle.
